  3. Click on “send pin” and get an OTP on your phone number.
  4. Verify OTP and get into the appeal application form.
  5. Here you will see all the periods where you are declined for the SRD grant. You need to appeal for each month separately.
  6. Choose a period where you need to appeal and check the reasons for rejection, for example, “alternative_income_source_identified”.
  7. Choose a fixed “no_alternative_income_source” from the dropdown menu.
  8. Click on the “Apply” button to submit your appeal for that period.

Those applicants who need to update their contact information, as they have received the identity verification failure status, can appeal using this method:

  1. Open the appeal portal and visit the link labelled as “clicking on this link”.
  2. It will redirect you to a new page where you can update your contact information.
  3. Provide your ID number and application ID to start the updating process.
  4. Update the required information, such as name, surname, banking details, or ID number.
  5. Once you have updated all the details, click on the submit and you will again redirect back to the DSD Appeal page.
  6. Now, click on the“Lodge an Appeal” button.
  7. Follow the same steps above from here to lodge an appeal online.

How to Check SASSA Appeal for Reconsideration Status?

You can check your appeal status online using the same DSD portal. Here is how:

  1. Follow the URL https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/.
  2. Now, click on the “click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status” button.
  3. Enter your South African ID number and phone number.
  4. Click on the “send PIN” button to get a verification PIN on your phone via SMS.
  5. Submit the PIN and check your appeal application status online.

When Will My Appeal Approve?

What If My Appeal is Also Declined?

The decision of the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) is considered final. Applicants will not have access to any further internal remedies to claim their grant payment. 

However, if the appellant remains dissatisfied with ITSAA’s decision, the only available option is to apply for a judicial review in the High Court, following the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act, 2000. This must be done within 180 days of the Tribunal’s decision.
