SASSA Opens SRD R370 Grant Applications for April 2025

SASSA SRD R370 grant applications are now open for April 2025. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) opened the SRD portal (srd.sassa.gov.za) for all new applications in April 2025.

Also, the SRD grant has been extended again until 31 March 2026. If you are unemployed and need money to live a better life or support your family, apply for SASSA R370 payment today.

We have received this news from Mr. Themba Matlou, who is the SASSA branch coordinator in Mpumalanga. He said that SASSA is ready to accept new applicants for April 2025.

SASSA SRD R370 Grant Applications Are Now Open for April 2025

You are all assuming that the SRD grant will end on 31 March 2025, but it has been extended by the SASSA. The South African government decided to continue the grant payments until 31 March 2026.

So, the grant applications are now open for April 2025. If you are earning less than R624 or you need financial aid then apply for this grant and get R370 cash from SASSA.

Note that the applications are now open for a limited time, so you need to hurry if you want to receive the payment in April 2025.

How to Apply for SRD Grant Online for April Period?

The only method to apply for the SRD grant is using the SRD portal. The portal provides the application form that you need to fill out. However, before you visit the portal, you should be aware that only eligible people can apply.

SRD Grant Eligibility Criteria (April 2025)

The South African Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is meant for people who need financial support and meet specific requirements. Before applying, make sure you qualify by checking the following criteria:

Who Can Apply?

  • South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and Special Permit Holders
    • You must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, recognized refugee, asylum seeker (with a valid section 22 permit), or a holder of a special permit (such as from Zimbabwe, Angola, or Lesotho).
    • Your documents must be valid and not expired.
  • Aged Between 18 and 59 Years
    • The SRD grant is only for individuals who are between 18 and 59 years old.
    • If you are younger than 18, you may qualify for a child support grant.
    • If you are 60 or older, you should apply for an old-age pension grant instead.
  • Unemployed and Not Receiving Other Government Support
    • You must not have a job or receive any income from employment.
    • You must not receive any social grants (such as child support, disability, or old-age grants).
    • You should not receive financial support from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
    • You must not be benefiting from any Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) payments, including UIF COVID-19 relief.
  • Earning Less Than R624 Per Month
    • If you earn more than R624 per month (from any source, including bank deposits), you do not qualify for the SRD grant.
    • SASSA checks bank records to ensure that applicants meet this requirement.
  • Living in South Africa
    • You must be living in South Africa at the time of application.
    • If you are currently outside the country, you are not eligible.
  • Not Living in a Government Institution
    • If you live in a government-funded institution (such as a prison, care home, or rehabilitation center), you do not qualify.
    • The grant is only for people who are fully responsible for their own daily expenses.

Who Cannot Apply?

  • People who receive other social grants (such as old age or disability grants).
  • Students funded by NSFAS.
  • Individuals who get UIF payments.
  • People with jobs or regular income.
  • Anyone who is in prison or a government-funded care facility.
  • Those living outside South Africa.

SRD Grant Application Guide

  1. Navigate to your web or internet browser. Use Chrome or Safari.
  2. Click here to visit the SRD portal.
  3. Now choose your residency type like ID holder or special permit holder.
  4. Click on the “click here to apply online” button.
  5. Provide your phone number and get a PIN from SASSA.
  6. Submit the PIN and fill out the application form on the next page.
  7. Now submit the form and you are all set.

How To Track My SRD Application Status?

After submitting the grant application, you need to track the application status on our SASSA status check page.

  1. Enter your South African ID number in the first blank space.
  2. Now provide the phone number used during application submission.
  3. Click on the “Check Status” button to get the application status.
