With this huge amount, the SASSA social grant payments have been increased. In this news post, you will get to know how much the new payments are and how you can apply for these grants to get the benefits.
SASSA Social Grants in 2025
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has been distributing social grants since 2005. Here are the most common SASSA social grants in 2025:
- Older Persons Grant or Old Age Grant
- Disability Grant
- Child Support Grant
- Foster Child Grant
- SRD R370 Grant
- Care Dependency Grant
These grants provide financial aid to those who are living in poverty. According to the SA News report, the current (2025) unemployment rate is 31.9% in South Africa, which was 32.1% in 2024. One of the reasons behind this decline is SASSA’s social grant payments.

Will the SASSA SDR Grant Increase to R400 in 2025?
SASSA is actively considering increasing the SRD grant to R400 in response to growing public demand. Many citizens have suggested that the current R370 payment, which was raised from R350 in April 2024, is still insufficient to meet basic needs amid rising living costs.
While there is no official confirmation yet, discussions are ongoing, and the government acknowledges the need to support vulnerable individuals.
The National Treasury’s additional funding for social grants in 2025 indicates a commitment to improving financial assistance. Beneficiaries remain hopeful that an increase to R400 will be approved soon to provide greater relief.
