SASSA Status Pending Mean and Fixture

SASSA Status Pending

SASSA status check has different codes or jargon to indicate the status of SRD grant application. One of the most common codes is “SASSA Status Pending” for 2025.

Over 90% of the SASSA applicants experience the pending status once they apply for SRD grant online. In this article, I have concluded all the steps to take if your status comes as pending. Moreover, if your pending status converts to declined status or failed status, follow the steps in this post to recover from that situation quickly.

Why Is Your SASSA SRD Grant Application Pending?

SASSA, or the South African Social Security Agency, disburses the SRD grant payments to approved applicants each month. There are over 9 million people from South Africa who are receiving financial aid from SASSA in 2025.

Each month, more than 8000 people apply for the SRD grant, and this number is increasing. So far, 17.4 million have applied for this grant since it was first delivered in May 2020.

So, handling this huge amount of applications is not an easy job. SASSA needs to verify each application and then approve it for the R370 payment. That is why most of the applications go into pending status right after the applicants submit them.

Does a Pending Grant Application Mean Rejection?

No, the pending grant application is in a phase where the SASSA is verifying the applicant’s details. SASSA uses the Department of Home Affairs and some other government databases to verify an applicant.

Until your verification process is in progress, the system will show you the pending status for your SRD grant application.

However, the final result will only be available once your application verification is completed. It can be approved or declined depending on your eligibility.

What Does Pending Mean for SRD Grant?

Pending means that SASSA is checking your information and validating it according to the eligibility criteria. This is the phase where your application is not approved or declined.

How to Fix SASSA Pending Status for So Long?

First of all, if you have just applied for the SRD grant and your status is pending, then you don’t need to take any steps. However, if your status is pending for more than 90 days, then you need to take further steps.

Check For Incomplete Required Documents of Information:

Sometimes, you need to check if you have submitted all your details. There could be a missing document as well to submit. You also need to make sure that you have provided your banking details.

If your status shows “Bank Details Pending,” then you simply need to provide your bank account information to get the grant payment via bank transfer.

If there is a need for any required document like a bank statement, then you need to upload the PDF of your last 3 months’ bank statements to continue the application approval process.

What to Do If Status Comes as Declined After Pending?

This means SASSA has declined your application. The next step should be to lodge an appeal on the Department of Social Development (DSD) website.

  1. Click here to visit the DSD appeal website.
  2. Read the appeal terms and conditions carefully on the first page.
  3. Tap on the “Check Appeal Status of Lodge an Appeal” button.

  5. Now, fill out the appeal application form.
  6. Submit the appeal, and that’s it.
